Introduction

So, the cliched first blog post.

I've been toying with the idea of creating a blog for a while now. I always wanted the main focus of it to be on my running experiences, mainly as way to review race experience and document training. However, I also wanted to add elements of my life which might be of an interest to others, namely as an Irishman living in France, working in professional language training, raising a bilingual and dual-nationality son, and other bits and pieces.

Running, though, will be the main focus. I'm finally doing this because I am taking part in my first marathon next Sunday (8 April 2018 - Paris Marathon) and I would like sum up my experience here afterwards, for better or for worse.

I'll also add previous race experiences, upcoming events, and general reflections on running and how it's had an impact on my life.

Why Royal Runs? Well, most of my running is done in and around Versailles and the surrounding forests. This is my home and I love being able to step outside and, in the space of five minutes, be steeped in such a beautiful and historical area.

A Royal Run - looking back on the Chateau de Versailles after 25km

It's the beginning of something. I hope to keep it updated somewhat regularly and who knows what it might develop into.
